Kombucha consumption and subsequent kombucha brewing was born from my obsession with finding ways to heal naturally after a 2010 diagnosis of an autoimmune illness. Determined to forge my own healing path and take my daughter and I’s health into our own hands, I began to tirelessly research the topic. I saw repeated references to fermented foods like kombucha, whole foods, green smoothies and I jumped all over it. With the introduction of eating a diet rich in ferments, whole foods, and eliminating the foods that trigger flareups, I have been able to keep my autoimmune illness under control for 7 years!
In 2011, I left my life in academia to raise my daughter closer to family, I was blessed to meet a friend, who happy to share one of her scoby babies with me (I’m forever in your debt Lydia)!! Within a month my counter top looked like a little lab, with brewing logs and jars of booch in various stages of fermentation. My “guiniea pigs” aka family and friends, although reluctant to try my little “vinegary” drink at first, soon fell in love with my brews and began sharing with others. In 2015, I decided to take the leap to start my own company and Morning Light Kombucha was born!
